Greenwaste Pick Up

Curbside greenwaste collection efforts are ongoing for Tulsa residents with greenwaste from the June 18 windstorm. Also, the greenwaste collection site will now be open through the end of August. The pickups start this week in the Gilcrease Hills area. The pickup area is much larger than Gilcrease Hills, so you may not see trucks right away. Click here to see the pickup map and dates.

It is illegal to dump your greenwaste in the Gilcrease Hills forest.

Collection efforts will start in the hardest-hit areas of town and will conclude in the lowest-impacted areas.

When pickups start, City contractors will be making a sweep through each zone, along with one final pass through when curbside collection concludes. Residents are urged to prepare now and get all greenwaste to the curb so that it can be picked up. Residents in neighborhoods where greenwaste may have been picked up as part of the ongoing efforts by the City, ODOT and OTA, will still be on the schedule for curbside greenwaste collection efforts.

To prepare for the citywide greenwaste pickup, residents should:

  • Stack (do not tie) greenwaste at the curb

  • Make sure greenwaste is not placed in the street, around mailboxes, buildings, or on the tops of utility lids or boxes

  • Make sure cars are not parked in front of greenwaste, or it may interfere with pickup operations

  • Make sure greenwaste is not bagged, as only yard waste should be bagged

  • Make sure greenwaste is free from storm debris, or it will not be picked up

 Frequently Asked Questions

Wait, I thought my greenwaste was already picked up?
As part of the street cleanup efforts that have occurred over the last few weeks, some residential greenwaste may have been collected. The crews for the citywide cleanup will still go back through all neighborhoods.

New: The crews came through my neighborhood, but didn't pick up my greenwaste. Why not?
If you are bypassed when crews roll through your neighborhood, check:

  • To make sure there are no fence posts, shingles, or other construction debris in it.

  • Bagged yard waste is not mixed with your pile

  • There are no cars blocking the road or your curb, preventing the large trucks from safely getting down the street.

Crews could also have a full load and need to dump their greenwaste at the mulch site before finishing your street. If this is the case, they will return to finish.

New: The map says today is the start date for my zone. Where are the trucks?
The trucks will be working in each zone for several days. If you don't see them on the first day, don't worry. They will be making their way through the zone and get to each street.

New: Does the start date mean my debris will be picked up on that exact day?
Not necessarily. While the start date does indicate when we begin working in a zone, it doesn't guarantee that all debris will be picked up on that specific day.

New: Are crews only working in one zone at a time?
No, crews are working simultaneously across all zones with current dates. This is to ensure efficient and widespread clean-up efforts.

Will you be making a second sweep?
The contractor will make an initial pass through all neighborhoods, based on the map zones. Once all zones are complete, the contractor will make a final pass through. This is only for greenwaste from the June 18 storm.

What should I do about my fence posts, shingles, and other storm debris?
Fence posts, shingles, and other storm debris are not collected in the citywide cleanup. All of that is considered storm debris and should be disposed of at the landfill.

Will crews pick up my bags of leaves and grass clippings during the citywide sweep?
No, clear bags of leaves and grass clippings should be separated from your storm greenwaste. These will be picked up on your regular trash day.

After my greenwaste from the storm is collected, will I be able to put regular greenwaste out when I’m working on my yard?
After your neighborhood has been collected, you will be able to resume putting out your yard waste in the same manner as before the storm. Regular rules apply: Limbs and branches cut to 4 feet and bundled, leaves and grass clippings in clear bags. All of this should be set alongside your gray cart on your regular trash day. NOTE: Your regular trash haulers will not pick up any leftover trees or limbs from the storm.

If I don’t want to wait for the crews to get to my neighborhood, are there other options?
Yes, you can still take your greenwaste to the temporary mulch site at E. Latimer St. & N. 89th East Ave., 7 days a week, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., through the end of August.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work on restoring our neighborhoods to their normal state. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

Yard Waste may also be disposed of at no cost at the City of Tulsa's Mulch Site.
